Randy Pausch, a computer-science professor who became internationally famous
for his awesome and truly inspiring "Last Lecture," passed away in
Chesapeake, Virginia, Friday July 25, 2008 after losing a battle with pancreatic cancer.
He was 47.
I have viewed this lecture twice and I get a golden nugget each time.
It's about life, goals, dreams and finding yourself. For those of you
who haven't seen/heard before, I strongly suggest you watch it, I promise
it's worth your time.
Here are my favorite quotes:
"The brick walls are there for a reason,” he
said.
“The brick walls are not there to keep us out; the brick walls are there to
give us a chance to show how badly we want something. The brick walls are
there to stop the people who don't want it badly enough. They are there to
stop the other people!
We cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand.
You’ve got to get the fundamentals down because otherwise the fancy stuff
isn’t going to work.
When you see yourself doing something badly and nobody’s bothering to tell
you anymore, that’s a very bad place to be. Your critics are your ones
telling you they still love you and care.
Experience is what you get when you didn’t get
what you wanted.
Be good at something, it makes you valuable.
Be prepared. Luck is truly where preparation meets opportunity.
